Meet the Voices Behind the Conversation:
Maria E Santaella, PhD(c), MSN, RN-BC, CPHON® serves as the Vice President of Research Strategy at the National Bleeding Disorders Foundation. In her current role, she actively shapes and executes the organization's research direction and provides strategic leadership and oversight to key initiatives such as the National Research Blueprint, Research Grants Program, and the implementation of Community Voices in Research (CVR) - a dynamic, community-powered registry, that captures the longitudinal experiences of individuals living with inheritable bleeding disorders and their non-affected relatives. Before assuming this pivotal role, Maria worked as a hemophilia nurse coordinator in a hemophilia treatment center. She brings a wealth of expertise to her current position with almost 3 decades of experience and a dual board certification in hemostasis and hematology/oncology nursing.

Halli Benasutti has a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Washington, where she studied gene therapy and science communication. With over a decade of laboratory research and grant writing experience, Halli is the new Director of Research Grants at the National Bleeding Disorders Foundation (NBDF). She guides the NBDF Research Team’s grant applications and helps guide NBDF’s funding opportunities. Halli lives and thrives in the mountains of Colorado, where she skis, dances, and hikes with her dogs.
