After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  • Discuss methods in the development of MASAC’s physical therapy guidelines for patients with bleeding disorders.
  • Summarize the latest Musculoskeletal Ultrasound guidance document approved by NBDF’s MASAC and how to best incorporate these guidelines at the HTC.
  • Outline ways physicians can utilize new MASAC guidelines on chronic pain management for persons with bleeding disorders into their practice and openly discuss the issue of pain management with patients.
  • Identify 1 investigator-initiated research project on post-traumatic stress and pain in hemophilia patients being funded through the National Bleeding Disorders Foundation.
  • Explain approaches and outcomes related to orthopedic joint surgeries in hemophilia.
  • Describe practical aspects to joint replacement surgery as well as peri-/post-operative considerations for patients with bleeding disorders.
