More than 200 supporters of the National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF) attended NHF’s Red Tie Soiree on September 5, 2019 to honor the contributions of Emmy winner Alex Borstein, Rangers head coach David Quinn, World Federation of Hemophilia, and Save One Life, Inc.
Alex Borstein, star of Amazon Prime’s hit comedy “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” was honored with the Inspiration Award. Ms. Borstein has been involved with the bleeding disorders community for many years and has been a generous supporter of NHF. For three years, she hosted a comedy showcase, “What’s So Bloody Funny,” featuring Sarah Silverman, Reggie Watts, John Early and other comedians, with all proceeds going to NHF. Most recently, she made a personal donation of $100,000 to the foundation.
David Quinn, head coach of the New York Rangers, was honored with the Ambassador Award. Mr. Quinn was diagnosed with mild hemophilia when he was twenty, effectively ending his aspirations of a professional hockey career. He refocused his passion into coaching, and in a recorded video acceptance speech, spoke of the improvements in treatment and care that brings hope to him and everyone in the bleeding disorders community.
World Federation of Hemophilia received the Global Leadership Award for their longstanding efforts to increase diagnosis and treatment for the 70% of people with no access to treatment and care around the world.
Save One Life, Inc. was recognized with the Global Impact Award for their work assisting people with bleeding disorders in developing countries through direct financial assistance, micro-assistance grants, and factor donation.
The evening concluded with a live auction, with autographed memorabilia donated by the New York Rangers, and a paddle pledge, which raised money for NHF’s Connections for Learning program. Connections for Learning helps people who wish to attend NHF’s Bleeding Disorders Conference but have financial barriers. The paddle pledge raised $63,000 for the program.
The Red Tie Soiree raised more than $370,000, which will support NHF’s programs and services.
