The Partners in Bleeding Disorders Education Program offers an educational module for health care providers at U.S. hemophilia treatment centers (HTCs) who want to better understand dental care as it relates to the comprehensive management of patients with bleeding disorders. The target audience for this activity are dental hygienists, dentists, nurses, and other health care professionals working on an HTC comprehensive care team.
This interactive learning module provides information about the dental considerations in management of individuals with hemophilia and other bleeding disorders, including an overview of preventive oral care, low versus high risk bleeding events, hemostatic management prior to and following dental procedures and common dental emergencies. Case studies and question-and-answer slides are included in order to allow the learner the opportunity to apply the knowledge gained.
This module conveys continuing education credits to dental professionals and nurses. “Dental Management for Persons with Bleeding Disorders” is provided for 1.0 contact hours under ADA CERP [American Dental Association Continuing Education Recognition Program] criteria. The University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry Office of Continuing Education is an ADA CERP Recognized Provider.
This activity is provided for 1.0 contact hours under American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) criteria. The University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing Continuing Nursing Education is accredited as a provider of continuing education by the ANCC’s Commission on Accreditation. The activity will remain available until 5:00pm Eastern Time on June 6, 2017.
Established in 1996, the Partners Program promotes excellence in care through education created by and for the federally recognized HTC Network and providers from a variety of disciplines that serve patients with bleeding and other coagulation disorders. The program is a collaborative initiative of the Indiana Hemophilia & Thrombosis Center, NHF and the Hemophilia Foundation of Michigan. Funding to support the Partners in Bleeding Disorders Education Program is provided through an unrestricted educational grant from Shire.
