NHF, in collaboration with the Raise the Caps Coalition, drafted a letter to Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, expressing concerns about "grandfathered" health plans continuing to impose lifetime caps on benefits. While the elimination of lifetime caps is included among the "immediate" reforms scheduled to go into effect in September, we are deeply concerned that insurers are permitted to impose lifetime caps beyond the six-month implementation date. The letter, signed by more than 80 organizations, urges Sebelius to publicly request that insurers eliminate lifetime limits as of September 23, 2010, as they have agreed to do on rescissions and extension of dependent coverage.
