The World Federation of Hemophilia's (WFH) Guidelines for the Management of Hemophilia were recently accepted by the National Guideline Clearinghouse (NGC), a public resource geared toward evidence-based clinical practice. NGC's mission is to provide physicians and other health professionals, healthcare providers, health plans, integrated delivery systems, purchasers and others an accessible mechanism for obtaining objective, detailed information on clinical practice guidelines and to further their dissemination, implementation and use.
The objectives of the guidelines, revised in 2012, are to:
- Offer practical recommendations on the diagnosis and general management of hemophilia, as well as the prevention and management of complications including musculoskeletal issues, inhibitors and transfusion-transmitted infections and
- Assist healthcare providers seeking to initiate and/or maintain hemophilia care programs, encourage practice harmonization around the world and, where recommendations lack adequate evidence, stimulate appropriate studies.
NGC is an initiative of the US Department of Health and Human Services' Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). It was created by AHRQ in partnership with the American Medical Association and the American Association of Health Plans, now America's Health Insurance Plans.
