On December 22, 2011, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced the launch of TSA Cares, a toll-free, helpline number for fliers with disabilities and medical conditions. Travelers can call ahead about screening policies, procedures and what to expect at the security checkpoint. The new resource could be helpful for bleeding disorders patients who often must travel with injectable factor products, needles and other ancillary devices.
“TSA Cares provides passengers with disabilities and medical needs another resource to use before they fly, so they know what to expect when going through the screening process,” said TSA Administrator John Pistole. People are encouraged to call at least 72 hours before their flight.
TSA Cares’ toll-free number is: 1.855.787.2227. It is available Monday through Friday 9am – 9pm (Eastern Standard Time), except on federal holidays. Information on traveling with disabilities and medical needs is also on the TSA Web site.
