The University of California at San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine has launched a new CME-accredited curriculum designed to offer more accessible, comprehensive virtual training on point-of-care musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSKUS).
The trainings focus on utilizing MSKUS for the evaluation of primary joints, including the ankles, knees, and elbows. Health care providers will also develop their skills in MSKUS for application to other arthritic conditions and other musculoskeletal syndromes, including hemophilic arthropathy.
These innovative training opportunities were born out of the COVID-19 pandemic, where circumstances compelled UCSD faculty planners to design safe, yet dynamic educational activities that could be delivered in both on-demand and live virtual formats. The curriculum is divided into four CME-accredited modules, which can be taken individually or as a series. They include:
Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Training for Arthritic Conditions: Ankle, Knee, and Elbow – Basics and Techniques Online Program: This on-demand, asynchronous program provides training in MSKUS to evaluate arthritic conditions and musculoskeletal abnormalities of ankles, knees, and elbows.
Teleguided Hands-on Training in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound for Arthritic Conditions: Ankle, Knee, and Elbow: This live teleguided course is developed to provide virtual hands-on training in MSKUS for evaluation of arthritic conditions and musculoskeletal abnormalities and syndromes.
Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Training in Hemophilia: This on-demand, asynchronous program provides instruction on the pathology of hemophilic joint disease with a focus on arthropathy, hemarthrosis, effusions, and JADE protocol.
Teleguided Hands-on Training for Hemophilia: Ankle, Knee, and Elbow: This live teleguided ultrasound course is developed to provide virtual hands-on training in MSKUS for the evaluation of hemophilic joint disease and musculoskeletal abnormalities.
