NHF is pleased to announce that David Kober of Monmouth Junction, New Jersey, is the winner of the 2011 Kevin Child Scholarship. Kober graduated from NYU in May with a BA in economics and French, and a minor in politics. He is currently enrolled in Brooklyn Law School, where he plans to pursue health law and public interest.
Kober, 22, has hemophilia A. He has been active in the Hemophilia Association of New Jersey. During his undergraduate years, he was president of his class twice. Kober served as a fundraising intern in the office of Andrew Cuomo, who was then the New York State Attorney General. He also served as the sponsorship chair for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life at NYU. Since January 2009, Kober has worked as a financial consulting assistant for AXA Financial Advisors. While juggling all of these activities, Kober maintained a GPA of 3.6.
The scholarship is named for Kevin Child, who died of AIDS in 1989, shortly before graduating from college. The $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually to a student with hemophilia who is either currently enrolled in or is planning to attend college.
