The National Hemophilia Foundation is pleased to announce Ang Li, MD, of the Bloodworks NW/Washington Center for Bleeding Disorders at the University of Washington (UW) in Seattle, WA as an NHF-Shire Clinical Fellow as of January 1, 2019.
Dr. Li graduated medical school at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX and received internal medicine residency training at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He is currently an Acting Instructor in Hematology/Oncology at UW and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle where he cares for patients with benign and malignant hematologic disorders at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. He is also pursuing a Master of Science in Clinical Research degree from the UW Department of Epidemiology.
Dr. Li is planning for a career in non-malignant hematology, with a long-term career goal of becoming an academic hematologist and clinical researcher in the field of coagulation medicine. As an NHF-Shire clinical fellow, Dr. Li will pursue dedicated training in comprehensive clinical care of bleeding disorders at the Washington Center for Bleeding Disorders under the mentorship and guidance of Dr. Rebecca Kruse-Jarres and Dr. David Garcia.
Funded through the generous support of Shire, the NHF-Shire Clinical Fellowship Program was developed to attract new physicians to the field of non-malignant hematology and support their continued development as clinician-researchers. The goal of this program is to increase the overall number of physicians committed to a career in bleeding disorders by providing them with high-quality mentored training from both a clinical and research perspective. NHF-Shire Clinical Fellows are nominated by program directors from 23 leading academic training centers in the U.S.
Back in July 2018, Dr. Hanny Al-Samkari of Harvard University/Boston Children’s Hospital and Dr. Michael White of Emory University/Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta were also selected as NHF-Shire Clinical Fellows. View NHF’s announcement of their selection along with their brief bios.
Since its inception, 38 fellows have received this prominent fellowship award. Many of the graduated fellows from this long-standing program are accomplished clinician-researchers in the field, serving in leadership roles at bleeding disorder centers throughout the US and now working as “mentors” to new fellows themselves.
