If you have a bleeding disorder and are questioning whether you should be physically active, the answer is a definite “Yes!” Regular physical activity has many benefits, such as improved cardiovascular fitness and healthy weight. It also can lower the risk of spontaneous joint bleeds, reduce feelings of anxiety and depression, and help you sleep better.
NHF has several new resources to help people with bleeding disorders incorporate physical activity in their lives:
Playing It Safe: When choosing a sport to play or an activity to participate in, it’s important to understand the potential risks for people with bleeding disorders, no matter what your age. This interactive online guide features an assessment of more than 80 activities, from archery to Zumba®. Each assessment includes an overview of the activity, the range of potential risk, and recommendations for safety measures.
Make Your Move Fitness Videos: Former NFL player Josh Gordy and physical therapist Luke Smith host this video series featuring fun and invigorating exercises that are appropriate for all mobility levels. Follow along with our yoga, tai chi or dance videos to take that first healthy step!
Make Your Move PT Webinars: Physical therapists are an important resource when considering any physical exercise. These webinars, led by physical therapists, will teach you important information on joint health, healthy habits and more.
All of these are available on NHF’s Steps for Living website. NHF will continue to add more videos and resources throughout the year.
