Halloween will never be the same again! NHF hosted its first Halloween fundraiser, “What’s So Bloody Funny?” on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at the Highline Ballroom in NYC. Hundreds of people flocked to the venue for a special evening of comedy hosted by actress, writer, producer and comedienne Alex Borstein (FOX's Family Guy's"Lois Griffin," star of HBO's new series "Getting On" and Ms. Swan on FOX's MADtv). The fundraiser included other performers, such as Sarah Silverman, Ted Alexandro, DJ Hesta Prynn, Reggie Watts and Marcus Monroe, with a dazzling juggling act. There was a costume contest, raffle drawings, DJ and dancing.
Borstein is a national spokesperson for the National Hemophilia Foundation and a carrier of hemophilia. “NHF is important and special to me, having grown up watching my brother and uncle traverse myriad hardships, pains and losses as members of the bleeding disorders community,” she says. “My hope is to help raise funds for NHF, to provide support for those affected, to improve treatments and help raise awareness about bleeding disorders.”
The “Dear Alex” Essay Competition winner was Ryan Seeley from Buffalo, NY, who was treated to the event with a guest. Borstein chose the winner after a blind reading of all the essays. Congratulations to Ryan and thank you to everyone who shared their stories with us.
All proceeds from the event will benefit NHF in its efforts to find better treatments and cures for inheritable bleeding disorders and to preventing the complications of these disorders through education, advocacy and research.
NHF is pleased to have Biogen Idec Hemophilia as the Monster Sponsor for the event, along with Sara Lee as the Ghoulish Goblin Sponsor. Thank you also to HBO, Bayer, Slant Fin and Walgreens for their support. Thank you to all for making the event so special!
