Each year, this scholarship is awarded to an exceptional student in memory of Kevin Child. Below is the list of previous recipients.
The Kevin Child Scholarship has been bestowing awards annually since 1990. It is only made possible through the generosity of individual donations.
Evan Schow2024 Bigfork, Montana |
Evan Schow was selected as the recipient of the 2024 Kevin Child Scholarship (KCS). He is a pre-med freshman studying microbiology at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He has worked as a counselor at Camp Valor Hemophilia Camp, participated in a dynamic elective biomedical program at his high school, and even joined his father on a surgical mission to El Salvador to help children with cleft lips and palates. Evan’s goal is to attend medical school with an eye towards becoming a medical doctor and an advocate for patients and families.

Christopher J. Ambrosio of Lynbrook, New York, received the 2022 Kevin Child Scholarship. He was a senior at Chaminade High School in NY when he applied for the award and hoped to be accepted into a Physician Assistant program. He had already been taking classes to be an EMT. Christopher also spent many years volunteering with the New York City Chapter, leading programs for teens and receiving a Teen Impact Award from NYCHC.

Aiden Peterkin was a sophomore attending Centenary College of Louisiana when awarded the KCS in 2021. He was a biology Pre-Med major who had managed to achieve a 4.0 GPA in all his first-year college courses. Aiden stated that his goal is to eventually attend medical school, obtain a MD and become a hematologist.

Brian Duval of Golden Valley, MN was selected as the recipient of the 2020 Kevin Child Scholarship award. Brian was attending the University of Nebraska as a sophomore, with a focus on both finance and political science, when he received the KCS. Brian’s passion for government relations helped to influence his goals which were to utilize his skillset and his dedication to helping others into a future in patient advocacy.

Nitya Bhattarai of Orange, CT received the 2019 Kevin Child Scholarship award. At the time, he was a freshman at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT. He was planning to pursue an undergraduate degree in pharmacy studies with the goal of working as a pharmacist.

Justin Najimian of Milltown, NJ was the recipient of the 2018 Kevin Child Scholarship (KCS). At the time of his award, Justin was a freshman attending Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ, and a member of the Honors College. He had plans to pursue an undergraduate degree in public health with the goal of working in the field of advocacy, healthcare policy or social work in the future.

Michael Kuklish of Lillian, Alabama was recipient of the 2017 Kevin Child Scholarship award. He had been a sophomore at the University of West Florida in Pensacola, FL at the time of his selection. With an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), Michael had plans to pursue a major in cybersecurity at UWF. After graduation, Michael hoped to obtain a position with the federal government in cybersecurity.

Justin Horbacz of Ocean Township, New Jersey, recieved the 2016 Kevin Child Scholarship. At the time, Justin was a freshman at the the University of Florida (UF) majoring in Health Science at the UF School of Public Health and Health Professions with an ultimate goal of becoming a pediatric hematologist in the future. His goal was to attend a good medical school preparatory program.

Damian Gonzales of Houston, Texas received the KCS award in 2014. He had been accepted into Texas A&M University and was a part of their engineering program at the time of his award.

In 2013, for the first time, the Kevin Child Scholarship was awarded to two brothers with severe hemophilia A - Gabriel Forbes had been a freshman at Whittier College majoring in kinesiology with a minor in French at the time of his award. He was pursuing a pre-med degree in the hopes of becoming an orthopedic surgeon.

In 2013, for the first time, the Kevin Child Scholarship was awarded to two brothers with severe hemophilia A - Raphael Forbes was a sophomore at Whittier College double majoring in biology and art at the time of receiving the KCS. Raphael’s goals were to further his education through graduate medical studies in the hopes of becoming a cardiovascular surgeon.

Stephen J. Nicolosi of Clarks Green, Pennsylvania, received the 2012 Kevin Child Scholarship. Nicolosi had been a senior at the University of Scranton, pursuing a degree in nursing at the time of his award. After graduation, he had plans to continue his education with the goal of becoming a pediatric nurse practitioner.

David Kober of Monmouth Junction, New Jersey, received the 2011 KCS award. Kober graduated from NYU with a BA in economics and French, and a minor in politics. At the time he had been selected, he was enrolled in Brooklyn Law School, where he planned to pursue health law and public interest.

Perseus Patel of Hercules, California, received the 2010 Kevin Child Scholarship award. At the time, Patel was a sophomore honors student at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He was pursuing pre-medical studies with plans to attend medical school, specializing in hematology.
