Learn About Bispecific Antibody Therapy

One type of treatment option for hemophilia A is bispecific antibody therapy. In this 3D video we will show how this treatment works in the clotting cascade. In hemophilia A, factor VIII (8) is missing or there is not enough of this factor available. Bispecific antibodies, which are made in a lab, play an important role in treatment because they can mimic the role of the missing factor VIII (8). Bispecific antibodies are proteins that are shaped like a “Y”. One arm of the “Y” can attach to factor IXa (9a) and the other arm of the “Y” can attach to factor X (10). By bringing factor IXa (9a) and factor X (10) together, the bispecific antibody can help the clotting cascade continue without factor VIII (8).
