Learn About Factor Replacement Therapy
One treatment used for some bleeding disorders is called factor replacement therapy. The following 3D video shows how standard and extended half-life factor replacement therapies work within the clotting cascade. Half-life is the time it takes for one-half of the medication to be used in your body. With standard half-life (SHL) factor replacement therapy, factors are used more quickly (they have a shorter half-life), so you need to replace them more often. With extended half-life (EHL) factor replacement therapy, the factors used are created in a way that makes them last longer (they have a longer half-life) in the body. This means treatment isn’t needed as often as it is for SHL therapy.
The National Bleeding Disorders Foundation would like to thank Sanofi for their generous support and partnership of this project.
